Some of you may be thinking, blogging? Isn’t that something that mums, bookworms and people with too much time on their hands do all day? – Incorrect.
Blogging is, in fact, a crucial element to your business’s online arsenal and isn’t something to be sniggered at in jest.
Not only is it a great way to interact with your audience (just like I’m doing right now…) it also offers a fantastic way of boosting your Search Engine Rankings by delivering fresh, relevant content which, search engines, like Google, LOVE!
The Benefits of Blogging for Businesses
Pretty simple really – It helps drive traffic to your site
Isn’t that what everyone wants, more visitors = more customers, right?
Think about how those people currently reach your website:
– They could type your website address right into the search bar but, that’s visitors you’d already secured anyway. If they’ve got your specific website address and are typing it in manually, it’s quite clear their intent is to visit your site and your site alone!
– You could pay for more visitors by buying an email list (don’t by the way, it’s a terrible idea!), spamming them, and praying some people open and click the links in those emails. But, that’s expensive and, technically speaking, illegal.
– You could pay for traffic by buying loads of paid for adverts like Google AdWords, not illegal, but quite expensive. Also, as soon as you run out of money, your visitors stop too.
So, I hear you asking, just how do you get more visitors onto your website?
In short: blogging, social media, and search engines.
IT WORKS A LITTLE BIT LIKE THIS…
Think about the number of pages on your website at the moment, probably not a lot? 5… 10 perhaps?
Out of those pages, how often do you update them? I’m gonna have a guess at ‘hardly ever’? – Don’t worry, we’re all guilty of it, after all, just how often can you update the ‘About Us’ page?
Well, this is where our super-hero friend, blogging comes to the rescue!
Every time you publish a blog article, it’s one more page that the search engines are going to index for you, which ultimately means one more chance for you to appear in those all-important search results and in turn, drive more traffic to your website. I’ll get into the nitty gritty of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) in a later blog post.
Basically, every time you blog, it’s like sending out a little signal to all the search engines to say “Hey, look over here, I’ve got LOADS of fresh and exciting content for you to read”.
The more you blog, the more they’ll come back to look for NEW content!
Another thing you 100% SHOULD be doing is sharing those blog posts on social media networks like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Pinterest – There are LOADS more but, those ones should see you good for now!
As soon as you publish your article share it on social media and, by sharing I don’t mean copy and paste the text into a Facebook post, I mean copy the URL or link of that blog article and insert it into your social media post, you’re building links back to your site this way!
If you’re still stuck, it should look a little something like this:
Engaging, blog content also helps in terms of generating content to go on social media channels. With SO many different channels it can become hard to find content that’s interesting for people to read on a daily basis. Linking to a blog can provide you with that content and in turn, strengthen your social media reach.
It’s win win!
So, are you convinced yet? – Blogging is a FANTASTIC way of boosting your online presence and is definitely something you should be looking to make time for in 2017.
